This book examines the steam, diesel, and electric locomotives that have powered Australia since 1854. This fourth edition details the massive technological changes that have swept onto the Australian locomotive scene. From the late 1870s, US built locomotives had been imported for Australian use, including the classic USA 4-4-0, 4-6-0, and 4-8-0 Baldwin-built locomotives. Also of interest is the Western Australian Pilbara"s newest heavy iron ore haulers giant locomotives weighing 197 tons and exerting a massive 4300 hp.
